Born in 1970 in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Harak Rubio grew up submerged in art.  His father, Pablo Rubio, is a renowned international artist. Born and raised surrounded by art. Constant exposure to freedom of expression leads to early experimenting in drawing, clay, silkscreen, jewelry, painting and later, metal sculptures. Begins his college education in 1989 at the University of Puerto Rico.

 In 1992 Harak completed his technical education in metals, jewelry and silkscreen; mastering media in design, drawing, painting, and sculpture.

His career starts in the world of film, advertising and video production as production designer, art director, prop master, and more. Has worked for various production and advertising agencies such as Universal Pictures, Miramax Films, Trivisión Spain, Disney plus, Animal Planet, People Films, Cinesi, Inc., Viguié Films, USA Network, ABC Network, CBS, Quentin Tarentino Productions, MTV, Revelation Films and Lifetime Movies among others -, distinguishing himself as one of the best in Puerto Rico.

 Throughout his artistic career, Harak has developed over ten large format sculpture around north and south America, has participated in numerous exhibitions and international biennales, and has been granted many awards through the years. Harak is still an active artist, and has recently acquired European recognition in 2018 with his first overseas exhibition in Frankfurt, Germany.

Highlights:

1992: he is invited to join the team of young artists who would benefit from the experience of installing the monumental sculpture entitled “Cristales de la Paz” in the Puerto Rico pavillion at the “Expo Internacional de Sevilla '92” in Spain. Participated in the “ I Simposio Internacional de Escultura de la Universidad de Puerto Rico” (First International Symposium of Sculpture at the University of Puerto Rico) as sculptor assistant. His defined style and commitment to design made him worthy of his first prize in sculpture at the “II Certamen Nacional de Artes Plásticas Para Artistas Jóvenes” (Second National Contest of Visual Arts for Young Artists). Since then he has won numerous awards and national and international honors both in the plastic arts and cinema and advertising.

1997: received a special invitation to participate in the “International Snow Fest 98” in Sarnia, Canada. 

2001: he is selected to participate in the “Second Biennial Sculpture in Steel” in Dorado Puerto Rico.  Achieves his first public work in 2002 with “Absolut Transition” a relief mural for the “Absolut Art in The Plaza, in Old San Juan. During the same year he is commissioned “Universo en tres”, for the Caribe Hilton Hotel.

2004: he was invited to participate in two international events: the “International Symposium of Sculpture for the Centenary of the University of Puerto Rico”; and the “Third International Symposium of Sculpture: Sculptors of the World 2004” in Guadalajara, Mexico, where he designs and builds two public sculptures.

2005: he establishes his studio in Florida, United States and is invited to the “II Biennial of Sculpture in Concrete” of the Autonomous Municipality of Caguas, Puerto Rico.

2007:  The “Es-Cultura” foundation of Leon, Mexico invites him to the “First International Biennale of Sculpture,” in Leon, Mexico where he built a public art project for the city and was awarded Second Prize. That same year, he is invited to build the Vitreous Light Star for the Municipality of Bayamon, Puerto Rico.

2008: he receives an invitation to the “First International Guadalajara 2008 Sculpture Biennale” at the Museum of Arts at the University of Guadalajara, Mexico.

In September, he exhibited at IMAGO gallery in Florida, US.

2009: he exhibits in October at The Jan & Gary Dario Gallery, West Palm Beach, Florida, US.

Harak is without question, a versatile and successful artist in the production and design of national and international cinema, sculpture, public works, painting and design.

He has achieved more than ten solo art exhibits, participated in over 50 group exhibits internationally and has public sculpture in Puerto Rico,United States, Argentina and Mexico.

His work is found in major public and private collections in Puerto Rico, United States, Russia ,Canada,Argentina,Germany and Mexico.
